About Us

African Outreach works with grassroots organizations in Africa to develop and deliver life changing projects in their communities. It was set up in 2000 by Africans living in London who wanted to make a positive contribution to Africa's development.

Vision

That impoverished and marginalised communities in Africa and its diaspora will become economically and politically empowered.

Mission

To increase access to opportunities and support required to improve living conditions in marginalized African communities. We do this through networking and facilitating the flow of resources to these communities.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness about African development in the UK and among the African community in the UK
  • To identify need areas and locate genuine partners who can develop and run a project to address the need
  • To mobilize resources for these specific partners through fundraising in UK

History

Outreach started life in 1997 as a hometown association, then as Home Linkages - an African welfare association sending clothes, books and equipment to needy communities in Africa. We registered as a formal charity in 2000 and started developing projects in partnership with community based organisations on the continent. We are currently planning to work amongst African communities living on the margin in the UK too.

Governance

African Outreach is governed by a constitution and an executive committee of four trustees. We are registered with the UK Charities Commission and are a member of BOND (British NGOs for Development).

Funding

We are funded through donations from supporters and charity grants. These have included:

We continue to invite all who feel inclined to support African development in various ways, to join our supporters to give us the support we need for our work.
